These are the three changes in REC - Screen | Video Recorder 4.6.12.1 that stand out in the developer's update notes and on its Google Play listing this week.
- 01Minor bug fixes
The notes describe minor bug fixes in this build. That is routine maintenance for an app used to capture screen activity and create videos.
- 02Worth using: choose recording quality
Worth using: REC lets you choose among UHD, FHD, HD, HQ, and SD recording resolutions, giving you options for different video needs.
- 03Worth using: record microphone audio
Worth using: REC can record sound from your microphone, which is useful when explaining steps, commenting on gameplay, or adding spoken context.
Our call on whether to update, and the link to the official Google Play listing, are on this issue's REC - Screen | Video Recorder page.

Tips
- Match resolution to the clip
Before recording, choose a resolution that suits what you plan to share. REC lists UHD, FHD, HD, HQ, and SD options, as well as configurable frame rates and bitrates. A lower resolution may suit a quick reference clip, while a detailed tutorial may call for a higher one. Check the available recording options in the app before starting.
- Decide whether to include audio
For a narrated tutorial or gameplay comment, microphone audio can add useful context to the screen capture. If you only need to show a sequence of taps or on-screen changes, you can choose not to record audio. Decide what the clip needs before you begin, then check the recording controls so the sound choice matches your purpose.
- Choose where clips are stored
REC’s description lists internal memory, an SD card, and external USB storage as places for saved recordings. Consider your available storage before making a long clip, and choose a location that is convenient for finding it afterward. The app also supports sharing videos through email, messaging, social media, and listed cloud services.
Menu names follow the developer's help pages and can differ slightly between versions and phones.
How we write the digest
Each week we check the Google Play listings of the apps our readers use most: the version number, the update date and the developer's What's new notes. When an app has a new version, we put the developer's update notes and the listing details together on one page, in plain words, with a link to the official Google Play listing. Google and most developers release updates in stages over several days, so a version listed here may not have reached your phone yet. Select Weekly is an independent site and is not affiliated with any developer. This page doesn't read your phone or your Google account, and nothing is installed from here.
FAQ
Is this the official list of REC changes?
No. This is an independent site and is not affiliated with ZipoApps. The app’s Google Play page is the authority for REC’s release information, availability, and current listing. You can check that page for the latest details before installing, and use the developer name to distinguish the official app listing from other results.
Why does Google Play show Open instead of Update?
Google Play may show Open when the app is already current for your account or device. Updates can also be offered gradually, so availability may differ between users. Check the REC listing again later if you expected an update, and rely on Google Play to show whether an install option is available to you.
Can REC record a tutorial with narration?
Yes. The app description says REC can capture the screen and record sound from the microphone, which can add spoken explanation to a tutorial. It also lists the ability to show screen touches during recording, a useful visual cue when demonstrating steps. Choose whether to include audio before starting a capture.
