These are the three changes in Weather Radar, Live Radar 2.1.6 that stand out in the developer's update notes and on its Google Play listing this week.
- 01Bug fixes and performance work
Google Play lists bug fixes and performance improvements for this build. The app's everyday forecasts and radar map are useful places to continue checking local conditions.
- 02Worth using: minute-by-minute rain
The precipitation forecast shows when rain or snow is expected to start and stop over the next two hours, giving you a focused short-range view.
- 03Worth using: layered radar maps
The animated radar map offers rain, snow, cloud cover, wind, and temperature layers, so you can view several kinds of weather information geographically.
Our call on whether to update, and the link to the official Google Play listing, are on this issue's Weather Radar, Live Radar page.

Tips
- Check precipitation before heading out
Open the precipitation forecast when you need to know whether rain or snow may start soon. Its short-range view covers the next two hours and gives expected start and stop timing by the minute. Use that alongside current conditions rather than relying on a longer outlook to answer an immediate timing question.
- Switch radar layers for context
Open the radar map and compare its available layers: rain, snow, cloud cover, wind, and temperature. A map can make the position and movement of weather easier to grasp than a single number. Choose the layer that matches your question, then return to the forecast for timing and other details.
- Look beyond the daily forecast
Use the hourly forecast when you are planning for the next day or two, and the 45-day outlook for a broader planning view. The app also describes detailed current readings, air quality, pollen, and sun and moon information. Choose the view that fits your decision instead of treating every forecast range as equally precise.
Menu names follow the developer's help pages and can differ slightly between versions and phones.
How we write the digest
Each week we check the Google Play listings of the apps our readers use most: the version number, the update date and the developer's What's new notes. When an app has a new version, we put the developer's update notes and the listing details together on one page, in plain words, with a link to the official Google Play listing. Google and most developers release updates in stages over several days, so a version listed here may not have reached your phone yet. Select Weekly is an independent site and is not affiliated with any developer. This page doesn't read your phone or your Google account, and nothing is installed from here.
FAQ
Is this the official list of Weather Radar, Live Radar changes?
No. This is an independent site and is not affiliated with Weather Forecast & Widget & Radar. The app's Google Play page is the authority for its official listing and update information. Check that page when you want to confirm the current description, availability, or details associated with the app.
Why does Google Play show Open instead of Update?
Google Play may show Open when the version available to your account or device is already current. Updates can also become available in stages, so availability may differ over time. Check the app's Play page again later if you are expecting an update, and use Google Play as the place to confirm what is currently offered.
How far ahead can its forecasts look?
The app describes minute-by-minute precipitation timing for the next two hours, hourly forecasts for the next 24 or 48 hours, and a longer outlook covering 45 days. These are different planning views: use the short-range forecast for nearby rain or snow timing and the longer outlook for general advance planning.
