Tips
- Keep your shelves up to date
When you add a book, choose the shelf that matches your reading plans: Want to Read, Currently Reading, Read, or Did Not Finish. Moving titles as your plans change keeps your reading history useful and makes it easier to find a book you have set aside. You can also make custom lists for your own categories.
- Log progress as you read
For a book in progress, record your reading progress by page or percentage. Updating it as you go helps your tracker show where you left off, rather than only recording finished books. Goodreads also lets you keep a book log of titles you finish, giving you a clearer view of your reading over time.
- Use reviews to choose your next book
Before settling on a title, read reviews from other readers and explore personalized recommendations based on books you have read and loved. Following friends can also surface what they are reading. If you want to discuss a book with others, look for a Goodreads group or book club that is reading along.
Menu names follow the developer's help pages and can differ slightly between versions and phones.
How we write the digest
Each week we check the Google Play listings of the apps our readers use most: the version number, the update date and the developer's What's new notes. When an app has a new version, we put the developer's update notes and the listing details together on one page, in plain words, with a link to the official Google Play listing. Google and most developers release updates in stages over several days, so a version listed here may not have reached your phone yet. Select Weekly is an independent site and is not affiliated with any developer. This page doesn't read your phone or your Google account, and nothing is installed from here.
FAQ
Is this the official list of Goodreads changes?
No. This is an independent site and is not affiliated with Goodreads. The app’s Google Play page is the authority for its official release information. This page offers an editorial overview of the build and the app’s listed features; check Google Play for the current listing and the information published by the developer.
Why does Google Play show Open instead of Update?
Google Play may show Open when the app is already current for your account or device. App availability can also be staged, so an update may not appear to everyone at the same time. Check the app’s Google Play page again later if you are expecting an update, and use that page to confirm whether an install option is available.
Can Goodreads track books I do not finish?
Yes. Goodreads includes a Did Not Finish shelf for books you set aside, alongside shelves for Want to Read, Currently Reading, and Read. You can use the shelf to keep your reading history organized without treating every book you start as a finished title. Custom lists are also available for your own groupings.
