Start NowWhat changed this week
These are the three changes in Maru - ComicViewer/TextReader 4.13.8 that stand out in the developer's update notes and on its Google Play listing this week.
- 01Bug fixes in this build
The current build’s notes cover bug fixes. Maru is designed to open reading files stored on an Android phone or web server, including comics, text, PDFs, and EPUBs.
- 02Worth using: comic reading
Maru supports image and comic formats, including ZIP, RAR, 7Z, CBZ, CBR, and PDF. You can choose reading direction, zoom images, and navigate through pages.
- 03Worth using: text and EPUB
The text reader handles formats such as TXT and CSV, plus EPUB and compressed text archives. Adjust fonts, text size, spacing, margins, colors, and page-turning controls.
Our call on whether to update, and the link to the official Google Play listing, are on this issue's Maru - ComicViewer/TextReader page.

Tips
- Adjust the reading layout
When text looks crowded or too small, use the reader’s font and layout controls to change the typeface, size, spacing, and margins. You can also change text and background colors or choose a character encoding. These options are useful for making a long document easier to read; look in the app’s Settings or reader controls for font and display options.
- Set comic page navigation
For comics, choose the reading direction that matches the file, including right-to-left order for Japanese-style pages. Maru also offers a landscape two-page view, zooming, and different page-turning methods. If a long image is intended to scroll like a webtoon, select the webtoon scrolling effect in the comic reader’s page-turn options.
- Use bookmarks and file history
Add bookmarks to return to a useful page, then use the app’s file tools to sort or search your reading material. Maru marks reading history by progress: red for recent, green for partially read, and blue for fully read. These markers can help you find where you left off when your library contains many files.
Menu names follow the developer's help pages and can differ slightly between versions and phones.
How we write the digest
Each week we check the Google Play listings of the apps our readers use most: the version number, the update date and the developer's What's new notes. When an app has a new version, we put the developer's update notes and the listing details together on one page, in plain words, with a link to the official Google Play listing. Google and most developers release updates in stages over several days, so a version listed here may not have reached your phone yet. Select Weekly is an independent site and is not affiliated with any developer. This page doesn't read your phone or your Google account, and nothing is installed from here.
FAQ
Is this the official list of Maru changes?
No. This is an independent site and is not affiliated with 마루치아라치, the app’s developer. The app’s Google Play page is the authority for its official listing and change information. Maru’s Play listing describes the app as a reader for comics, text files, PDFs, EPUBs, and compressed files stored on a phone or web server.
Why does Google Play show Open instead of Update?
Google Play may show Open when the version currently offered to your account is already installed. Updates can also reach people at different times through a staged rollout. Check the app’s Google Play page again later if you expected a newer build, and use Google Play as the place to install the official app.
Does Maru include comics or novels to read?
No. Maru is a viewer for supported files stored on your Android phone or a web server, and the app does not provide novel or manga files by default. You need to have access to the files you want to read. The listing describes support for many text, image, archive, comic-book, PDF, and EPUB formats.
