What changed this week

These are the three changes in Clip Studio Paint 5.1.4 that stand out in the developer's update notes and on its Google Play listing this week.

Clip Studio Paint 5.1.4
  1. 013D layer controls no longer overlap

When you select a 3D layer, the Object Launcher and movement manipulator no longer overlap. That should make these controls easier to see and use together.

  2. 02A changed link for older 3D files

The destination linked in a message for .clip files containing old-format 3D layers has changed. This matters when you open that particular kind of artwork.

  3. 03Effects dialog interface improved

The dialog interface has been improved for Crystallize, Inflate, and Drop shadow, found under Filter > Effect. These are the named effects covered by this change.

Our call on whether to update, and the link to the official Google Play listing, are on this issue's Clip Studio Paint page.

How we write the digest

Each week we check the Google Play listings of the apps our readers use most: the version number, the update date and the developer's What's new notes. When an app has a new version, we put the developer's update notes and the listing details together on one page, in plain words, with a link to the official Google Play listing. Google and most developers release updates in stages over several days, so a version listed here may not have reached your phone yet. Select Weekly is an independent site and is not affiliated with any developer. This page doesn't read your phone or your Google account, and nothing is installed from here.

FAQ

Is this the official list of Clip Studio Paint changes?

No. This is an independent site and is not affiliated with CELSYS,Inc. The app’s Google Play page is the authority for official information, including its current release notes and availability. Check that page if you need to confirm what Google Play lists for your app.

Why does Google Play show Open instead of Update?

Google Play can make an app update available in stages, so different people may see it at different times. If the page shows Open instead of Update, check again later through Google Play. You can also use the app as installed; the button indicates whether Google Play is currently offering an install action.

Do I need a plan to save or export artwork?

The app description says tablet users need an annual or monthly plan to save or export artwork. It describes a free 30-day trial and says a first plan can include up to three months free. Smartphone users have all features for 30 hours in a free trial that refreshes monthly. Check the app’s current plan details before relying on a particular option.
