Start NowWhat changed this week
These are the three changes in Photoshop Express Photo Editor 18.4.40 that stand out in the developer's update notes and on its Google Play listing this week.
- 01Give videos an aesthetic Look
The new video Looks let you apply a visual style to clips, giving you another way to shape their appearance before sharing or saving them.
- 02Replace a photo background image
You can replace a photo's background by uploading an image, making it possible to put a different scene behind the subject in your edit.
- 03Retouch with upgraded healing
The healing tool has been upgraded to help touch out blemishes quickly, adding a more direct way to clean up small distractions in a photo.
Our call on whether to update, and the link to the official Google Play listing, are on this issue's Photoshop Express Photo Editor page.

Tips
- Try a Look on a clip
Open a video you want to edit and browse the available Looks to find a style that suits its subject and mood. Since this build calls out aesthetic video Looks, compare the clip before and after applying one. Review the whole sequence before sharing, rather than judging the effect from a single frame.
- Choose a replacement background
When editing a photo, consider whether a different background would make the subject stand out more clearly. Use the background replacement option and upload an image to use behind the subject. Check the edges and overall composition after the change, then make any other edits you want before saving or sharing the result.
- Use healing for small marks
For a portrait with a small blemish, try the upgraded healing feature and inspect the repaired area closely. A zoomed-in view can help you work on the specific spot, while checking the full picture helps keep the retouch looking consistent. Photoshop Express also describes other portrait tools, including red-eye correction and clone stamp.
Menu names follow the developer's help pages and can differ slightly between versions and phones.
How we write the digest
Each week we check the Google Play listings of the apps our readers use most: the version number, the update date and the developer's What's new notes. When an app has a new version, we put the developer's update notes and the listing details together on one page, in plain words, with a link to the official Google Play listing. Google and most developers release updates in stages over several days, so a version listed here may not have reached your phone yet. Select Weekly is an independent site and is not affiliated with any developer. This page doesn't read your phone or your Google account, and nothing is installed from here.
FAQ
Is this the official list of Photoshop Express Photo Editor changes?
No. This is an independent site and is not affiliated with Adobe. Google Play's page for Photoshop Express Photo Editor is the authority for the app's official listing and update information. For the most current details about the build, check that page in Google Play.
Why does Google Play show Open instead of Update?
Google Play may show Open when an update is not currently offered to your account or device, including during a staged rollout. You can check the app's Play page again later. If an update becomes available, the page will offer the option to install it; seeing Open does not prevent you from using the installed app.
Can Photoshop Express edit both photos and videos?
Yes. The listed changes include aesthetic Looks for videos, while the app description covers photo editing such as retouching, background replacement, text, filters, and collages. The available editing options depend on whether you are working with a photo or a clip, so open the relevant item and browse its tools.
